Our Philosophy

The thinking behind the Pebble

You have seen how The Pebble App works and who it is for. This page explains why it was designed that way. Children grow into the behaviours that adults consistently notice, and everything in the app follows from that one idea.

The Pebble Cycle

Three quiet actions repeated with intention

Notice

Encourage

Repeat

Notice

It starts with attention. Children become more of what we notice.

Encourage

A specific word. A Pebble in the jar. Warm acknowledgement in the moment.

Repeat

Through repetition, behaviours become routines. Routines become who a child becomes.

The Seven Principles

The ideas that shape everything inside

  1. 01

    Notice before you correct

Children can't repeat the behaviours we don't notice

  2. 02

    Be specific with encouragement

    Children repeat what we recognise

  3. 03

    Celebrate effort not just achievement

    Progress deserves encouragement

  4. 04

    Small moments build big habits

Habits are built one choice at a time

  5. 05

    Consistency beats perfection

It's what happens most often that matters

  6. 06

    Encouragement builds confidence

Children grow where they feel seen

  7. 07

    Every family belongs

    Every family looks different

    Every family is welcome

“Children become more of what is consistently encouraged

The wider thinking

Why we built it this way

Traditional reward charts focus on compliance. They reward what is easy to measure and quiet what is hard to see. The Pebble App is designed to do the opposite. It makes small everyday moments of effort and kindness visible.

Behavioural science tells us that habits form through repetition. Repetition is sustained through encouragement, not through pressure or elaborate systems. Simply through being noticed, warmly and consistently.

Every design decision follows from that. One tap to add a Pebble. The calm progress of a filling jar. A shared Family Circle where every trusted adult can notice the same wins.

Our hope is that ThePebbleApp becomes almost invisible over time. The habit of noticing and encouraging becomes the real thing families keep.
